THE DOG
THAT LAUNCHED
AMAZON.

Before one-click. Before Prime. Before AWS. A Welsh corgi named Rufus was literally dropped onto a keyboard to launch Amazon pages. Now the site leads with the new Rufus PFP.

Thirty years later, Amazon retired the Rufus name from its shopping AI. The original Rufus never needed a rebrand. Now the paw is back on the button.

01 / THE LORE

THIS ISN'T MADE-UP
CRYPTO FAN FICTION.

In 1996, when Amazon was still a tiny online bookstore operating from a former janitorial-supply warehouse, software engineer Eric Benson and managing editor Susan Benson brought their corgi, Rufus, to work.

Rufus became a fixture at launches. Engineers would lift him over the keyboard and drop his paw onto it to “flip the site” live.

He became part of Amazon folklore, helped shape the company's famous dog-friendly culture, had a Seattle building named after him, and Amazon even kept a dedicated Rufus page on Amazon.com. Decades later, the company reused his name for its generative shopping AI—before renaming that assistant Alexa for Shopping on May 13, 2026.

Most meme coins borrow a narrative. Rufus already has one.

The concept is simple: the dog tied to Amazon's earliest launches, paired with Amazon stock exposure on Robinhood Chain.

Amazon used the name twice. The dog had it first. $RUFUS takes it onchain.
